Becoming a Certified Multigenerational Family Therapist

One year ago at the graduation of completing the advance intensive course, I made a stronger commitment to deepen my understanding and application of Multigenerational Family Therapy in my work with individuals, couples, and families.

Six years into learning this modality, I am grateful to now be certified as a multigenerational family therapist by Prof Dr. Maurizio Andolfi.

This journey has stretched and grounded me in equal ways. It has deepened how I see others and myself —not in isolation, but within relationships, culture, histories, and generations. More importantly, it has reminded me that competence comes from a long process of crafting—of shaping a part of myself that can sit with complexity, attune to and hold the pain of each family member, and remain present with my authentic self, while gently inviting the authentic parts of them to emerge.

I continue to learn to listen for what is not said, and to look beyond symptoms to find the essence of the family.

This is a milestone to remember, a greater responsibility to hold.

This path reminds me not to become a closed door. To keep my eyes, mind and heart open. And not to define myself by the paper or title I hold, but by who I am with them in the room.

Grateful for the mentors, supervisors and families who continue to teach me.
